Zetasizer

Zetasizer Nano ZS, Malvern, UK.

Zetasizer provides the ability to measure particle size, zeta potential, and molecular weight, of particles or molecules.

It’s mainly used for: Colloids, Nanoparticles, Polymers,  and Proteins

( Measurement of particle size )

The Zetasizer Nano series performs size measurements using a process called Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) through measuring Brownian motion and relating it to the size of the particles.

The Zetasizer Nano series performs molecular weight measurements using a process called Static Light Scattering (SLS).

The molecular weight is determined by measuring the sample at different concentrations and applying the Rayleigh equation, which describes the intensity of light scattered from a particle in solution.

( Measurement of zeta potential )

The Zetasizer Nano series calculates the zeta potential by determining the Electrophoretic Mobility, which is The observed rate of migration of a component divided by electric the field strength in the given medium.
